Special Drawing Rights

A Special Drawing Right (SDR) is an international unit of account defined by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).  It is commonly used in international legislation and can be converted into national currency in the same way as other foreign currency conversion. The value of one SDR in terms of United States dollars is determined daily on the IMF website and it bases on the exchange rates of the currenciesas quoted at noon at the London market. (In case London market is closed, New York market rates are used; in case both markets are closed, European Central Bank reference rates are used.)

The Montreal Convention limits for baggage and delays were thus 1,000 SDRs and 4,150 SDRs respectively.

The latest value of the SDR in terms of the US dollar is available from the IMF

Could you please help me and answer my inquiry. Qatar Airways is asking for recipts for the content of my lost bag, is it true that they can't give me compensation unless I present the bills?

Unfortunately, this is absolutely true and this inquiry is common requirement for any compensation paid by airline to passenger.

What about items that were gifts? My entire golf rig was lost, and most of them were gifts for my 30th birthday trip to Scotland! Does this mean that I'll never see compensation for them?!?

SAA lost one of my bags,I have made a claim ,the contents was worth over R10000.00. I have received a letter from them stating compensation for lost luggage will be limited to $20 per kilo, they have estimated the bag weighed 5kgs.
The airline have admitted they did not put the bag on the plane and that it can not be found at the departure airport. Surely I have a right to receive reasonable compensation.

Dear Christine

According to Warsaw convention, clearly identified in "Travel conditions" of the ticket, carrier's responsibility is limited by the 20USD per each kilo of lost baggage weight.

Malev Airlines lost my luggage, I reported the loss immediately and filled out the claim form upon leaving Budapest and turned it in to a Malev agent. At that time I asked if they needed any other documentation and was told know no. Upon returning to the USA; Malev requested original copies of all boarding passes, tickets, property regularity report, baggage claim tickets; which I mailed. Now it appears they are claiming they have not recieved the documents. Now I no longer have the originals they are insisting upon recieving. Upon reviewing their Conditions of Carriage it makes no mention of this supporting documentation. I feel they are not acting in good faith. Is there and agency that can apply pressure to Malev to settle the claim or act as an arbitrator. Are these actions in violation of the Warsaw Convention and or the Montreal Convention?

Malev has right to ask you for documentation mentioned. If documents have been send via registred mail and you have copies of that - that is problem of Malev to find originals.

My advise - apply to court. Usually, after receiving notification from court, airlines try to find solution with the case before first hearing of court

I did travel whet Swiss air (witch I well never do agene) and they did lost my bag.
I did make a clime at the airport when I did not receive it in my final destination.
I have been in contact whet them 2 months now, and they are asking the most strange
Questions. Now the are saying : ???As we have confirmation, that it was loaded onto the aircraft from Z??rich to Brussels and offloaded in Brussels, we must assume the bag has been stolen. In order to get access to the surveillance camera of the baggage claim area at the time of your arrival, we will have to issue a police report at Brussels airport in your name. Therefore we need a written and signed confirmation of yours, that your bag is still missing and you agree to the police report being issued in your name.???
I have been in contact whet the Swedish national consumers ombudsman and they did tell me :
???Whatever the extenuating circumstances, when passengers hand their bag in at check-in, they s

I paid excess baggage of Canadian $220 for a large imac computer in original packaging weighing 11.5kg before packing. Baggage label was placed and computer was taken. It was traced to leaving Heathrow for JHB but went missing in Johannesburg. SAA have declined my claim and i have appealed stating, baggage label was placed on computer - ensuring they have taken responsiblilty for said item, i also paid for computer to be transported over and above my free allowance. Apparently last year passengers were loosing flat screen TV's in JHB during the airport revamp, they were smuggling these out under rubble. I was told that my computer more than likely went the same way. Can I fight this.
